Originally from Nice and a heritage speaker of Occitan, Gabrièu Pelisson has followed in the footsteps of his predecessors and has challenged the French status quo: he has provided a space for speaking, developing, and teaching his language.

In this talk, he will review the historical and political factors that stifled the use of Occitan. He will then discuss how he locates himself as both a speaker and content creator, carrying on a long legacy of language promotion via his YouTube channel Parpalhon Blau, or ‘Blue Butterfly’.
