Carla Floccari

Bio/CV:

Carla Floccari is a first-year PhD student in French. After attending a Classe Préparatoire Littéraire, she obtained a BA and an MA in French Literature from the Sorbonne, graduating with honors in 2024.

Carla's Master II thesis, entitled Révéler et trahir : ambiguïté du dire et de l’être dans trois romans de Marie NDiaye, laid the foundations for the research she intends to pursue at UC Berkeley. Her literary and intellectual interests are centered on the twentieth century and concern representations and theorizations of disrupted subjectivities.

Building on her previous research, she aims to further explore the distinction between subjectivity and identity in order to examine how the relationship between chronological regimes and ontological structures produces a rupture.

At the intersection of fiction, philosophy, and psychoanalysis, she proposes to consider time not only as a narrative structure, but rather as an ontological vector, linked to an experience of enclosed narratives.

Carla is also a writer. Her strong interest in visual art and art criticism has led her to write for exhibitions, catalogues, and artists.
