CO-SPONSORED BY THE TOWNSEND CENTER FOR THE HUMANITIES, THE CONSORTIUM FOR THE ARTS, FRENCH STUDIES, AND THE OFFICE OF THE DEAN OF HUMANITIES

Daniel Tiffany (USC), Ross Chambers (University of Michigan), Katharine Conley (Dartmouth), Katerine Bergeron (Brown), Eric Preto, (UCSB), Carrie Noland (UCI), Véronique Hélenon (International University of Florida), Hilary Gay (UCB), Derek Schilling (Rutgers), Aleka Calsoyal (UCI), and Michael Sheringham (Oxford).

Michael Sheringham , Oxford University, moderator

Professor Sheringham is the author, most recently, of Everyday Life:   Theories and Practices from Surrealism to the Present (Oxford University Press, 2006).

Cole Swensen , a distinguished American translator of contemporary French writing is a poet herself: author of Noon , 1998, for example; Such Rich Hour , 2001; The Book of a Hundred Hands , 2004.

Eric Suchère , whose multi-disciplinary work includes poetry, film, video, music, has written widely on contemporary art and is the author, notably, of Lent (2003), a hybrid work involving both photography and writing.

Alan Milon, professor of sociology at the University of Paris, is a member of the Observatory of Graffiti in Paris, and author, for example, of   L'étranger dans la ville:   du rap au graff mural (PUF, 1999).  

Professor Milon's evening talk is entitled "Autour du film,   L'Art du Sens .   Un graffeur dans la ville:   visages ou cicatrices de la ville."
