20th- and 21st-century poetry; intersections between poetry and the visual arts; intersections between poetry and new and “old” media; lyric theory; thinking and/vs. visualization; words and/vs. things; poetry as a way of seeing and as a way out of the regime of the visible.

My dissertation considers the work of poets Francis Ponge, Emmanuel Hocquard and Pierre Alferi in light of their interest in practices of plastic and photographic image-making. My intervention tracks the relationship between changing and increasingly ubiquitous image technologies (analog and digital photography, film, video, television) and the practical theories of the poetic image—its structure, function, and relationship to the representation of time—that these poets propose.
