19th-20th century French literature, poetry, and dance: I am interested in how dance has been used as a metaphor for poetic language, and conversely, when these metaphors break down and dance is used as a foil for thinking about the limits of language. How have problems of representation and signification in thinking about dance been used to interrogate how language, and in particular poetry, functions?
